Yuma Desalting Plant
Completed in 1992, the Yuma Desalination Plant was built to treat saline agricultural return flows from the Wellton-Mohawk Irrigation and Drainage District. The treated water is intended for delivery to Mexico under a treaty from 1944. Since 1992, the Yuma plant has only been in operation on two separate occasions. Floods on the Gila River and engineering design flaws cause the plant's closure. Ashkelon Desalination Plant, Israel
Ashkelon Desalination plant is the largest seawater reverse osmosis plant in the world. The plant produces around 6% of Israel's water needs. Israel has constantly had water problems and this called for the construction of multiple plants along the Mediterranean coast. By 2020, Israel hopes to produce 750 million ㎥ per year, in 2008 the plants produces 111 million ㎥. |
