Yuma Desalting Plant
Completed in 1992, the Yuma Desalination Plant was built to treat saline agricultural return flows from the Wellton-Mohawk Irrigation and Drainage District. The treated water is intended for delivery to Mexico under a treaty from 1944. Since 1992, the Yuma plant has only been in operation on two separate occasions. Floods on the Gila River and engineering design flaws cause the plant's closure.
